Oberweis: Underwood chooses radicals in her party over majority in her district with impeachment vote

Dec. 18, 2019

For Immediate Release

Sugar Grove, IL – Rep. Lauren Underwood’s vote for impeachment is a clear indication she has lost touch with her district, according to 14th District Congressional Candidate Jim Oberweis.

“Washington politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Lauren Underwood are doing nothing but playing politics,” Oberweis said. “We the People elect the President, not Pelosi and Underwood. Impeaching the President is nothing but partisan politics at its worst and it’s wrong. It has been nothing but a waste of time and a waste of our tax dollars.”

The US House of Representatives today voted to impeach President Donald Trump by a vote of 230-197 to impeach on the First Article and 229-198 on the Second Article. No Republicans voted for impeachment and two Democrats joined the Republicans in opposing the impeachment of the President on Article 1 and three Democrats voted “No” on Article 2.

Only Democrats, including Rep. Lauren Underwood, voted for impeachment.

“Today is a sad day for our nation’s history.   While the House Impeachment Inquiry failed to come anywhere near the bar for impeaching a duly elected President – Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and Lauren Underwood are doing nothing but playing politics.

Moments ago, Nancy Pelosi and Lauren Underwood voted to send the Senate the thinnest and least thorough Presidential impeachment in history.

We the people elect the President, not Pelosi and Underwood. Impeaching President Trump is nothing but partisan politics at its worst and it’s wrong. It has been nothing but a waste of time and taxpayer dollars.

The time wasted by Congresswoman Underwood could have been better spent helping to protect and create jobs, cover pre-existing medical conditions, lower drug prices, solve our border security problem and help fix our failing roads and bridges.”
